WORK EXPERIENCE
At Mounts Bay Academy we greatly value the benefit of work experience for our students as it gives them an advantage when applying for further education, university, apprenticeships or employment. Introducing students to the world of work can help them understand the work environment, choose future careers and prepare for employment.
MBA students have the opportunity to gain sought after employment skills for their own career development and actively supports and encourages all their students to take part. Many of our students have been offered employment or apprenticeships as a result of their successful work experience or have gained a clearer understanding of their future pathway. The Year 10 Work Experience Week this year is the 10th to 14th July 2023. Lindsay Masters is the MBA Work Experience Co-Ordinator and can be contacted for help and support from students and parents / carers in finding a placement on lmasters@mountsbay.org
Where to start?
Start by thinking about what your interests are and what you think you might be good at. For example, if you love sport, you might want to see what it’s like to work in a gym or with a sports physiotherapist. If you know you want help people you might want to try out a caring profession like healthcare or working with the elderly. Popular placements such as veterinary practices, the Police and RNAS Culdrose fill up quickly so it is important to apply early. The deadlines for the completed work experience forms are February half term. You can also access further information on the Cornwall Council website: https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/workexperience
Every student will receive a MBA Work Experience Student Pack for guidance and are supported by their Tutors in tutor time lessons, as well as having access to advice and guidance from their Work Experience Co-Ordinator. We are also holding events during Project Week to help prepare students for the world of work.
