15 year old Mounts Bay academy student, Angelina Foey, has hits a quarter of a million streams on Spotify!

The talented singer-songwriter’ Angelina Foey’s’ original EP ‘Always Will Be’ has been streamed a staggering quarter of a million times in the USA alone in the last few days.

Angelina was invited to appear on BBC Radio Cornwall on the Dan Pascoe Show on Friday 1st December. Angelina was interviewed about her music, her global streaming success and MBA’s in house Qube Record label. If you didn’t manage to catch her interview on Friday you can catch up on: Daniel Pascoe – 01/12/2023 – BBC Sounds – you can skip forward to 1:38:00.

Angelina, from Mousehole in West Cornwall, has achieved incredible listening figures, outperforming artists like Sarah McQuaid, Bailey Tomkinson and The Velvet Hands over the same time period.  The singer, who is a student in Year 11 at Mounts Bay Academy in Penzance, wrote and recorded most of the EP when she was just 14 before releasing it in August. The record has achieved massive, unprecedented streaming figures and has seen several of the songs picked up by Spotify playlists.

Angelina makes laid back, guitar-centric, dreamy pop music with influence from artists like Clairo and Faye Webster. Her soulful voice has been compared to Colbie Caillat and Lana Del Rey, and her candid and heartfelt lyrics deal with navigating the ups and downs of relationships.

Already experienced in the live setting, Angelina most recently performed at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Music For Youth Proms, having already performed this year at Birmingham’s CBSO Centre and Rock Oyster Festival alongside acts like Sophie Ellis Bextor and Nile Rodgers. Next summer, after sitting her GCSEs she will be playing a week long series of shows in the south of France with her band.

Her EP was released via Mounts Bay Academy’s in-school record label Qube Records, which has now achieved over 1 million streams and downloads of songs written and recorded at school, since it’s inception in 2014! Mounts Bay has an amazing record of producing recording artists, with Jockstrap’s Georgia Ellery, The Voice winner Molly Hocking and recent Glastonbury performer Oscar Brown all Mounts Bay alumni!

Qube Records is a world leading initiative, enabling students and the local community to create, record and release original music worldwide. Now in it’s 10th big year, the label has released over 50 albums of original music, working with 100s of students, and community acts from choirs and classical cellists to punk and metal bands. “I’ve been really happy with the reaction to the EP since it came out. I couldn’t believe the amount of streams over the last week, it was definitely a shock, however I’m really proud of the EP and worked really hard on it so I’m glad that so many people are enjoying it. I hope people can keep listening as I’m excited to make more!”

“Angelina is a massive talent, and her songwriting and production process is so mature. I knew it was extra special when we were making the record but obviously didn’t expect it to go quite this big so soon! It’s no more than she deserves, and I think it again proves that our Qube Records project really is world leading”
