Year 9 have been addressing the important question of ‘What is the best way of teaching ‘safety’ to teenagers?’ Their entry point was looking at safety awareness through the ages and how it has changed. Their challenge has been to consider the most effective way of sharing this important safety information in the present day.
They have had a number of workshops delivered by both a number of outside agencies and staff within the Academy. The areas covered have ranged from LGBTQ awareness delivered by YAY (Young and Yourself), to The Fire Service on road safety issues; Brook on sexual health to The RNLI on coastal safety; YSUP and Narcotics Anonymous on the consequences of substance use; and they have also been looking at how to look after their mind through an exploration of mindfulness.
The students have been interested, engaged and involved. They have been considering effective ways of sharing their new-found knowledge to keep teenagers safe which will be exhibited in their final product.
