Year 11 Football Victory
The Year 11 football team travelled to current County Champions Penryn College for a tough quarter final tie in the Cornwall Schools’ FA Under 16 Cup.
A strong Penryn side dominated possession but could not break down the Mounts Bay defence of Matt Dale, Corey Jewell, Charlie Mills and Billy Pengelly. With chances at both ends few and far between the game finished at 0-0 and went into extra time.
As the game progressed the Mounts Bay midfield continued to chase possession with the tireless running of Tristan Badcock and intellegent interplay of Finn Scott and Jake Carly gradually producing breakaway chances for Jason Simmonds and Todd Mitchell whose pace provided a constant threat to the Penryn defence. As half-time in extra time approached Badcock succumbed to cramp and Robbie Oxley moved into the centre of midfield and it was Oxley’s precision pass that put Simmonds through to calmly slot the ball home for a 1-0 lead. A fine safe by goalkeeper Anoki Summers maintained Mounts Bay’s lead and as Penryn’s heads dropped and Mounts Bay started to take control an interchange of passes between Todd Mitchell and Jack Robinson gave Jason Simmonds another opportunity which he latched upon to smash home a second goal.
Final Score: Penryn 0 Mounts Bay 2.
(Men-of-the-match Corey Jewell & Charlie Mills).
Mounts Bay now meet Penair at home in the Semi-Final after Christmas.
