This week the new Year 7 cohort continued their transition from Primary Schools to Mounts Bay. Thursday was very special as our new year seven students arrived to spend their first induction day at Mounts Bay! There was an explosive start to proceedings as Ms Weightman and the Science team wowed us all with a fantastic assembly filled with chemical reactions, fire and questionable scientific jokes! From here the students joined up with their new tutor groups and took part in a range of lessons across the Creative Arts and Science faculties. In these sessions students carried out scientific experiments, took part in Photography and Art lessons, as well as learning some new skills with the Music team! The year group also took part in a fun-fuelled PE lesson, the new year 7s were all raving about how much they enjoyed it. That was followed by a roast-dinner lunch provided by the canteen which was met with lots of appreciation one students said “This is way better than our food in Primary School!’
Alongside all of that activity, the new year 7 students had time to spend with their tutors, and get to know the other students in their new tutor groups. This was exciting for staff too, getting to know who their tutor groups would be for the next five years. This certainly is a talented year group with many musicians, actors, actresses, dancers and performers from a variety of different sports.
On Wednesday and Thursday evening’s the parents of the new year 7 had the chance to visit Mounts Bay. This provided an opportunity to meet their child’s new tutor and tour the Academy’s new facilities, whilst also completing some formalities of the transition process, such as organising PE Kit and uniform. After the formalities of the evening there was a chance for students, parents and staff to continue to get to know one another and eat strawberries and cream!
It has been a pleasure meeting such an enthusiastic, polite and vibrant group of young people, and we are all very much looking forward to them becoming our new year seven cohort in September and supporting them to flourish over the next five years. Thank you to students, parents, staff and everyone else involved making the induction day such a huge success.
