Every year as part of Golowan Festival we run 2 events for young musicians from the Penwith area.
The first, ‘Sounding Off’ on Thursday 27th June was a night for any young bands and DJs from the area. It ran from 7-11pm in Sound nightclub, Penzance, and featured 8 bands from Mounts Bay Academy, Helston School, Nancherrow Centre (St Just), and Penwith College.
The event was opened by a performance from Mounts Bay musicians Danny Hammond, Jack Billinger and Mia Herbert singing an Arctic Monkeys song. This was their first public outing as a band and they were great. Next up was the Mounts Bay Academy jazz/funk band The MB’s who played 3 songs, followed by our year 8 rock band Almost Illegal. The standard of music was brilliant and they all stepped up their performance level to entertain the loud audience.
We then had performances from 5 more bands playing an eclectic variety of styles. The high;light being a band from Helston called Glory Fire, who had a singer with more energy than all the other bands put together!!
The star from Mounts Bay was Danny Hammond who played drums for all 3 of our bands on the night!
It was a great event, and we are already looking forward to next year.
