Snow Success

Congratulations to former student Rowan Coultas who has just come a magnificent 3rd in the 13th Red Bull Nanshan Open in China.

Rowan left the Academy last year to pursue a career as a professional snowboarder and due to his successes so far this year was invited to take part in the event and compete against some of the best snowboarders in the world.

Rowan was delighted with his third place, starting his run off with a perfect cab900 double cork, saying afterwards “I got 8th last year, and now Ive get third this year with a way better run. I am so pleased to be on the podium!”

The third place also earned Rowan $5,000 dollars in prize money.

Rowan is part of the GB Olympic Freestyle Snowboard Team and is on course to compete in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games which will be held in PyeongChang, South Korea.

After the event Rowan got straight on a plane to join the rest of his olympic team to compete in the Big Air category of the 2015 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria.

Look out for him on the BBC Red button from 20:30 on Saturday 24th January.
