At Mounts Bay Academy we have signed up for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s live Schools’ Broadcasts. The live screening of the first play, their acclaimed production of Hamlet, took place on Thursday 10th November. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to see this amazing production, in the comfort of the school hall, for free. The production was split into three sections, rather than the normal two with student activities between each section and live Q&As with actors from the company. It also included a live introduction from the studio. Students were totally engaged with the play, which starred Paapa Essiedu as Hamlet.
Joe Pengelly, Year 8, said, “It was a really gripping play. It was fast paced, lively and intriguing. They made it relevant by setting it in the 21st century. I am definitely up for watching other RSC productions.”
Mrs Marsden said, “The RSC Schools’ Broadcasts are a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the thrill of live theatre. One hundred and twenty four students from across Years 8-10 took the opportunity to see this production of ‘Hamlet’. We have signed up for future RSC Schools’ Broadcasts of ‘The Tempest’ and ‘King Lear’ early next year, which I am sure will prove just as popular.”
