Today was the first day of our exciting new curriculum for Year 7, 8 and 9 students. The International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) is used by some of the best schools in the country and is a challenging, engaging, internationally-minded, concept-focused curriculum designed specifically for the learning needs of 11-14 year olds. The IMYC helps students to understand their learning by linking all subject learning to a conceptual “theme”. It is designed to engage the specific developmental needs of 11-14 year olds who work towards understanding through a personal and global perspective. Students “make connections” by linking all subjects together through the “Big Idea” which delivers rigorous and transformational knowledge, skills and understanding in a challenging, student-led learning environment.
The themes and big ideas for this semester are:
Year 7 Theme: Balance
Big Idea: Things are more stable when different elements are in the correct or best possible proportions.
Year 8 Theme: Relationship Big Idea: Every individual thing affects and is affected by other things.
Year 9 Theme: Responsibility Big Idea: Each of us is in charge of the actions we choose.
