U16 Mixed Hockey Champions at the Cornwall School Games.
On Friday 9th December the U16 hockey team travelled to Penair to compete in the Winter School Games.
The Team started off a bit slowly in the first game against Poltair but managed to beat them 2-0. Our next opponents were Bude where we beat them 3-1. We then played Penair and managed to scrape a 2-2 draw. And finally against Liskeard where we were frustrated in the second half and unlucky to not get more goals, that game ended up 3-0 to MBA.
We were then through to the semi-final where we were put up against strong opposition, Launceston. MBA defended expertly and managed to grind out a well deserved draw. The game then went to penalty flicks. MBA decided to go second, and with quality keeping from James Williamson and an excellent flick from Josh Bainbridge, MBA were well deserved finalists.
In the final we came up against Penair once again. With both teams creating chances but unable to convert, the game finished once again 0-0. Again it went to flicks. Penair decided to let MBA take the first flick. For the first three flicks neither teams managed to put it past either keeper. But with both teams scoring the final two flicks it went down to sudden death. Up stepped the Penair player and with James Williamson dancing in goal, he managed to put the Penair player off and make a great save. Harry Doyle then stepped up for the flick to win the game and put it past the keeper.
It was a great day with some great hockey and MBA thoroughly deserved the win.
