Match report by Jacob Powley
Mounts Bay year 7 went into their penultimate league match with an unbeaten (league) record and high hopes against a Cape Cornwall side who could only field ten men due to a shortage of players .
Despite a scrappy first 10 minutes , it was the home team who took the lead ; Henry Hocking striking the ball sweetly into the top corner of the net , after good work on the right by Finley Wallis opened up the defence.
A free kick from Jacob Trudgeon tested the keeper before Mounts Bay made it 2-0 ,
Jacob Powley winning the ball on the halfway line , before feeding Piran Tanner who promptly danced through the defence before slotting the ball calmly in to the net.
Minutes before the interval , Cape swung in a corner before sloppy defending allowed them a way back into the match with the last kick of the first half.
Keen to restore their two goal lead , Mounts Bay started the second half the brighter of the two teams , with Thomas Eddy playing a through ball for Jacob Trudgeon to win a penalty , the unfortunate victim of a late and clumsy challenge from a Cape Cornwall defender.
Although he was carrying a slight knock , he converted the kick , making it 3-1.
It was soon becoming evident who had the most quality over the course of the game , and by the time Jacob Trudgeon capitilized on the oppositions poor goal kick , making it 4, it was always going to be hard for the ten men to level the game , but just after Josh Richards hit the side netting , Mounts Bay were pegged back to 4-2 , a textbook cross being poked in at the near post.
Even after good passing from Matt John Olds and Kelan Moon, Shea Cornish was still left with a huge goalmouth scramble to score a fifth , which his superb commitment helped him pull off.
Just as yet another Mounts Bay attack fizzled out ,the final whistle went ; with a deserved victory in the bag , before the decisive match with Humphry Davy tomorrow .
The team was ;
