At the end of April, Year 7 and Year 8 took part in the individual UKMT junior challenge. The junior maths challenge encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. It is aimed at students in Year 7 and 8 and we have had plenty of success in Year 8 with 7 students achieving Bronze certificates. Matthew Hendy also claimed the Best in Year certificate.
The Year 7 students have taken on this challenge and come out with some great results. We have six students achieving Bronze, four students achieving Silver and three achieving Gold. For Ziji Lee, Gold was only the starting point – he also won Best in Year and Best in School, and was invited to participate in the Junior Kangaroo competition early last month. Those results are in and Ziji, yet again, has smashed it. He achieved a score in the top 25% and will collect his Merit certificate later this month. What a huge achievement from our budding mathematicians. Well done everyone!
