On Wednesday 15th January eight Year 10 students took on the challenge of competing against other schools in the Year 10 Mathematics Challenge. The students dedicated time after school to prepare for the competition and were able to learn base 6 arithmetic and apply it to the four operations.
The students worked hard on the three hour train journey to Exeter, practising their newly acquired skills. After the very hilly walk to the campus building, we were set up and ready to go!
Each round of the challenge presented increasingly difficult problems to solve and students coped well working under time pressure and excelled in their ability to work collaboratively.
Whilst the students didn’t win this challenge, they put up a good fight and have a much deeper appreciation of the subject…and their teacher!
