Nelson Mandela’s memorial service and funeral were held this week, and as a mark of respect the main corridor at Mounts Bay will be festooned with flags and banners celebrating his life, his influence and some of his many words of inspiration and wisdom. The corridor will be renamed Madiba (his tribal name) Avenue in his honour. It will lead up to the Technology quad where the gardens are to be renamed ‘Freedom Square’ as a memorial to the great man. It is planned that the area, which currently houses a pond, will be redesigned and it will become a social area accessible to students. This is where we need your help. Mrs Davey is looking forward to hearing ideas from students as to how they envisage ‘Freedom Square’. If you have any suggestions, designs, plans or ideas please contact Mrs Davey.
