I am writing to encourage students to get involved in our special Christmas competition this year.
The Cornishman has teamed up with Penzance Town Council to offer one lucky child the opportunity to help turn on the town’s Christmas lights.
We are looking for youngsters to design a Christmas card for Penzance Mayor Phil Rendle to send out to the town.
The card must have a Penzance theme, but it could contain any elements of Christmas, from Santa and his reindeers to a nativity scene or perhaps just a street scene covered in snow.
The competition is open to schoolchildren aged six to 16 and all entries must have the students name, age and school on the back.
There will be four age group categories 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-16 and the winner of each category willreceive a prize with the overall winner will get the chance to see their card in print, and turning on Penzance’s Christmas lights with the Mayor on Saturday, November 30.
So, we would love it if you could encourage your pupils to take part. The entries will all be judged by staff from The Cornishman and Penzance Town Council.
All applications must be sent to Christmas Lights Competition, The Cornishman, 13/14 Market Place, Penzance, TR18 2JB by Wednesday, November 20.
I look forward to receiving a whole sack of entries from Mounts Bay students!
