Leading Edge Academies Partnership

Mounts Bay Academy is moving into a new exciting development phase of formal partnership working with a number of very strong local Academies in Penwith during the Spring of 2018. The aim is to form a local Multi Academy Trust of schools called the “Leading Edge Academies Partnership”. Each Academy in the partnership will work collaboratively to support each other to develop world class and leading-edge education provision based on the latest research to benefit the unique communities that they all serve. The MAT will also be focused on helping local schools that find themselves in temporary difficulty.

The founding member LEAP schools include four early adopter/Convertor Academies from Penwith. They are Mounts Bay, Ludgvan, St Hilary and St Buryan Academies. All these schools already have strong links and have worked closely together for many years. Together they are hoping to join forces to support the Five Islands School on the Isles of Scilly as it moves from an Ofsted category to good and then outstanding over the next three years. A very recent Ofsted inspection of the Five Islands School notes the positive impact of the work already undertaken in the Secondary section by Mounts Bay Academy over the last six months.

The new LEAP Multi Academy Trust (MAT) has been appointed by the Department for Education to become an approved sponsor and the expected conversion date for Five Islands School to become a Sponsored Academy is 1st March 2018. The aim is that all the LEAP Academies will officially be equal partners of the new MAT by the Summer term 2018 once all legal protocols are followed. The LEAP MAT has replaced the original support bid by MBA and Venture MAT that did not progress in the Summer of 2017. However, we do hope to continue working with Venture MAT and Trevithick Academy as part the Teaching School Alliance going forward.
