Karate Competition

Caitlin Barton – Sargeant in Year 7, Robert Blackabey (ex Mounts Bay) and Mr Blackabey travelled to Essex on 7th July to join the UK squad for a Karate Competition in preparation for the European Championships to be held in Barcelona in October.

Caitlin put in an excellent performance in kumite (fighting) and in individual and team kata (routine) gaining a medal.  Robert Blackabey gained a Gold medal in the team kumite and took Silver in the individual, being beaten by a Squad member and Former World Champion.

There were eighteen events and the UK squad managed to gain 14 Gold, 12 Silver and 11 Bronze.  This was an excellent result against tough opposition.  Many of us came away with bruises, but a celebratory meal that evening helped to take people’s minds off injuries.

The Mounts Bay members must be congratulated on their commitment to training during weekdays, Sundays and the time spent travelling to Squad training and tournaments.

Well done!
