GCSE Results 2016

Congratulations to all of our GCSE students who have gained the best results Mounts Bay Academy have had for a spectacular 8th year in succession.  Students began collecting their results from 9.00am this morning and we are delighted that so many have achieved such outstanding success.  They have excelled in both the old and new headline figures that the Government uses to rank schools for both attainment and progress.

The old measure of 5A*-C including English and Maths has seen a dramatic increase from 66% to 73% overall – an increase of 7% and 21% above the county average for 2015.  A ‘new measure’ being formally introduced this year includes the academic gold standard called the English Baccalaureate.  An impressive third of Mounts Bay students gained this demanding benchmark which is 13% above the county average for 2015.

The new ‘Basics’ headline figure is the percentage of students who gained both English and Maths.  We are delighted to say that 78% of our students gained this measure which is 20% above the national average.

The amount of students who were successful at A/A* grades was phenomenal this year with 120 gaining at least one A/A* at GCSE.

A subject that was particularly noteworthy this year was English whose students achieved 93%.  The Maths department also need to be commended for securing a record 80% pass rate.

In addition, many subjects produced pass rates of over 90% including English Language, Physics, Biology, Music, Italian, Drama, IT, Art, Additional Maths, Finance, P.E. and Media Studies.

With such great results it is always difficult to single out individuals.  However, the following 18 students exceeded 8 A/A* grades with some students achieving 14 A/A* grades.

C Barton-Sargeant, P Bradley-Peer, E Brown, A Dunkley, Z Dunn, L Eddy, O Egan, R Enston, A Fitkin, A Freeman, M Gordon, A Hanman, J Henshall, A Lee, T Manser, E Pullen, J Thompson, I Upton.

Well done to everyone on your outstanding results. We wish you every success for the future and look forward to you all joining our new alumni programme which was launched today.
