Mounts Bay are embarking on the second year of a Comenius Science project for Gifted and Talented students. The European- funded project, based on Biotechnology, involves partner schools in Turkey, Germany, Bulgaria, Norway, Poland and Italy. It is already creating spin-off projects with the six schools including a one with a music focus with Maria Theresia Gymnasium in Augsburg.
The teacher in charge of the project there, Herr Udo Legner, is a music and film fanatic and even counts Bob Dylan amongst his personal friends. Herr Legner is currently compiling a composition of music from the seven schools – a creative idea certainly, but this time with a difference:
To link in with the Biotechnology theme, all the music has been performed on instruments made from vegetables. Mounts Bay may not be best buddies with Bob Dylan (yet) but our very own star, Mr. Luke New, who had a number 1 hit with his band, The Underbelly, last year, helped “lay down” the track with our students using the school’s high-tech music software.
We are looking forward to hearing the final Euro-composition next week when three students will be joining a project meeting in Moss, Norway and the partners will all be coming to Penzance in March. The project is our second one with Comenius backing and has helped us gain re-accreditation for the International School Award for another three years.
