It was a truly magical evening last night at Madron Church where the annual Mounts Bay Carol Service was held. The venue rang with festive music and readings wonderfully performed by MBA students. The service was conducted by the Reverend Tim Hawkins, who warmly welcomed the congregation to the church.
The musical offerings started with a beautiful solo from Malachi who sang the first verse of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. This was followed by wonderful musical performances from the HPI choir with ‘Sans Day Carol’, Year 10 students with ‘White Christmas’, Year 8 students with ‘I Believe in Father Christmas’, a Year 9 vocal quartet with ‘Silent Night’, Year 11 students with ‘Have Yourself A Merry Christmas’ before the HPI Choir performed a delightful version of ‘Last Christmas’. All students performed beautifully in the picturesque setting, which complemented their repertoire perfectly.
The readings were delivered engagingly by the student readers, who all performed with great confidence and poise. ‘The Angel’s Message’ was read by Grace, Charlie, Caitlin and Lois from Year 11. Bella, Morvah and Ivy from Year 8 read ‘Christmas Daybreak’. ‘Angels and Shepherds’ was read by Lewis, Lila, Reggie, Molly, Zelah and Gabriel from Year 7. Freya, Isla, Matilda and Alice from Year 10 read ‘All that be Present’. ‘Christmas Thank You’s’ was read by Emily, Kingsley and Laylas from Year 9.
A collection held during the service raised funds for both Madron Church and the RNLI, which is Mounts Bay’s chosen charity. Afterwards the performers and congregation enjoyed mince pies and hot drinks.
