Madron Church rang with festive music and readings on Thursday evening at the annual Mounts Bay Carol Service. The service was conducted by the Reverend Tim Hawkins, who warmly welcomed the congregation to the church.
There were beautiful musical performances from the Academy choir, boys choir, HPI choir, Year 11 singers, string ensemble, concert band and Emma Eddy who played a wonderful duet with string teacher Tim Boulton. All students performed beautifully in the picturesque setting, which complemented their repertoire perfectly.
The readings in between the musical numbers were delivered engagingly by the student readers, who all performed with great confidence and poise. ‘Angel’s Message‘ from Luke chapter 2 was read by Nina Micciche, Oscar Clive and Horace Halling from Year 11. Tia Smart, Isla Harvey, Alice Micciche and Kempa Marks from Year 7 read ‘Nativity Play’ by Clare Bryan. ‘Carol for Last Christmas’ by Norman Nicholson was read by Iris Rainbow, Luke Stoten and Amber Sanders from Year 9. Kim Shail, Isaac Thompson and Amber Symons from Year 10 read ‘The Shepherd’s Tale’ by James Kirkup. ‘Christmas’ by John Betjeman was read by Grace Tswei, Caitlin Rendle, Logan Aspden and Lois Willett-Green from Year 8.
A collection held during the service raised funds for both Madron Church and the RNLI, which is Mounts Bay’s chosen charity. Afterwards the performers and congregation enjoyed mince pies and hot drinks at Landithy Hall.
