On Tuesday 21st February both year 7/8 boys and girls were very privileged to meet one of Great Britain’s Olympic Hockey Players. Richard Alexander is playing in his second Olympics this summer at the 2012 games. The pupils had the opportunity to question Richard and discover some of the key components applied by an individual when playing at the top of their game.
A room full to the brim of 200 local pupils would be hard for anyone to command the full attention of, but Richard had the whole room totally enthralled and hooked on every word. His advice and explanations provided pupils with the knowledge and understanding of what it takes to compete at National and International level, and has hopefully installed within them a sense of determination.
The pupils then had the opportunity to show off their own talents and play in a friendly tournament. Whilst this was happening the pupils had their chance to meet, talk to and be photographed with Richard Alexander. England Hockey provided each pupil with a ‘goodie’ which they could get autographed.
Richard was an excellent example to the pupils and was enthusiastic for every photo and question thrown his way. Even our own Henry Hocking in year 7 gave his own thoughts on the day, featured the following morning on Radio Cornwall. It was an exceptional opportunity for the pupils to experience the dedication and motivation an elite athlete competing in the London 2012 Olympics exudes and a hugely inspirational afternoon for all.
