Surf Competition

On Friday 15th May 16 MBA students from Years7 to 9 took part in the Penwith Schools Surf Competition. This annual event invites the best surfers and body boarders from all the Penwith schools including Mounts Bay Academy, Humphry Davy School, Cape Cornwall, St Ives School and Hayle School. The students compete for qualification to the Cornwall School Games Surf Competition in June.

The team turned up at Praa Sands beach at 9am to find perfect 4 foot waves breaking for the competition and were all very excited. 14 students competed in the following categories:

Year 7-9 boys:

Archie Pilcher

Woody New

Huck New

Finley Gray Williams

Ben Durant

Year 10-11 boys:

Leo Reeves

Dillon Freeman

Toby Pearce

Year 7-11 body boarders:

Stan Roynon

Jack Slater

Alfie Brown

Year 7-11 girls:

Bonnie Whitlock

Zoe George

Emily Rees

During the event MBA photographers, Perran Tustin and Luke Jacobs photographed the action. The quality of surfing was very high, and our students had to really push themselves to get through to the quarterfinals, and semi-finals. In the end we won the team trophy, and had two MBA students in all four finals.

Some MBA students did really well individually including:

Girls open – 1st Bonnie Whitlock, 4th Emily Rees

Body board open – 2nd Alfie Brown, 3rd Stan Roynon

Boys year 7-9 – 1st Woody New, 2nd Huck New

Boys 10-11 – 2nd Leo Reeves, 3rd Toby Pearce

All the students were amazing, and everyone who got into the finals will now qualify for the Cornwall School Games on 24th June.
