Last weekend Kenan Hewish went up to Dartmoor with Plymouth and Cornwall Air Training Corps to participate in the Ten Tors Challenge. He had to walk 35 miles as part of a team, carrying all their food, equipment and tents. At 7 o’clock on Saturday morning the challenge started with artillery guns firing and a bugle call, all of the teams rushed for their first tor, theirs being Cosdon Tor and by lunch time they had already covered over 15 miles. After a long days trekking the team pitched camp at White Barrow at 8pm, after having an hour long detour while trying to find camp. After a tiring day they ate their “rat-pack” tea and went to sleep.
After a rough nights sleep, they awoke at 5 am for a 6 am start. Sunday was really long day, but the team finished the Challenge with crowds applauding them into the finish line. The team received their medals and certificate and then headed for the mess, where they enjoyed a pasty.
Ten Tors is highly recommended for those that enjoy hiking and want to challenge themselves with a two day expedition across Dartmoor
